Infovox iVox 2.0 gives Mac OS X Snow Leopard voices in 22 languages
“The Lucy British voice is, in my opinion, the best synthetic voice ever to become available on any computer platform. This new voice is making my Mac experience far more enjoyable. As a server administrator who is blind and, therefore, relies on audible feedback, these new voices are increasing my productivity by enhancing legibility of synthetic speech to a previously unsurpassed level.”
Infovox iVox provides Mac OS X users with the best voices ever on the Mac. You won't believe your ears hearing these naturally-sounding voices, available in many different languages. What is more, they can be used in any Mac OS X application that uses speech. Including applications such as TextEdit, Preview, Acrobat Reader, Microsoft Word (using its Speech toolbar), AppleScript, Proloquo, KeyStrokes, SwitchXS, VisioVoice and AppleWorks, as well as many educational titles such as ConvenienceWare GhostReader, TextHelp's Read and Write Gold for Mac (version 2.1.0 and higher) and Kurzweil 3000 for Macintosh (Versions 3.0.4 and 4.0 and higher). Infovox iVox is also available in an attractively priced bundle with GhostReader to combine the benefits of system-wide voices, with the coolest speech application on the Mac.
You can also use Infovox iVox with Mac OS X built-in speech and accessibility features. Including the Mac OS X built-in VoiceOver screen reader. Non-English users now have the possibility to hear all the VoiceOver menus and messages in their own language by using the Infovox iVox voices for their own language.

Using Infovox iVox with the Spoken Menus feature of Apple's iPod nano 4G
If one of the Infovox iVox voices is set as the System Voice in the Speech panel of the System Preferences, iTunes 8 can use the voice to generate the audio files needed for the Spoken Menus feature of Apple's new iPod nano. The video below shows speech-feedback with British voices as the user navigates the iPod without having to look at the screen. The British Peter voice was set as the System Voice before synchronizing the iPod in iTunes (learn how to enable Spoken Menus). The iPod's language was set to English UK. This is a great way to navigate your iPod while keeping it safely in your pocket and also works great for vision impaired users.
