Words are the building blocks of language, and language is how we tell stories. It’s how we tell each other who we are. Words can shape perceptions—calling AAC a “clinical practice” paints a very different picture from saying AAC is “all the ways we communicate.”

In this post, we’ll take another look at the results of last year’s International AAC Awareness Month Survey to see what it tells us about the teaching strategies that family members and professionals use to support people who use AAC.

During AAC Awareness Month an online survey was conducted to learn more about the state of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) in the English-speaking world. Three years after the last survey, we wanted to get a better understanding of current practices and challenges.

In this blog post, we share the results of a 2012 exploratory survey we conducted together with professors from the University of San Diego and the California State University at San Marcos.
