FACT: Expectations matter

If a teacher has low expectations, their students will meet that expectation. They will do poorly. If a teacher believes their students can learn and they teach them - students learn and do well.

The same can apply to parents.

So start this AAC journey with high expectations for yourself and for your child.

Here are examples of high expectations:

  • You believe the AAC user can learn.
  • You make time for the AAC user.
  • You include the AAC user in conversations.
  • You use positive language when you talk about the AAC user.
  • You are patient and resolve challenges.
  • You ask for all these things from any other person that knows or interacts with the AAC user.
